Côte d’Ivoire

The National Spelling Bee Competition of Côte d’Ivoire also known as SPELLING BEE CÔTE D’IVOIRE is the official and national Bee contest in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. It is the very first national spelling bee competition of its kind in the French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa.

Spelling Bee Côte d’Ivoire is an annual initiative of United Stars of American English (USAE) since 2012, a National English club registered as a Non-profit organization with the Ivorian Ministry of Interior Affairs, with BURIDA, the Ivorian Copyright Office and endorsed by the Ivorian Ministry of Education through “la Direction de la Vie Scolaire” (DVS), the Ivorian Department of School Life.

The Spelling Bee Competition organized in Côte d’Ivoire aims at contributing to the academic excellence and promoting cultural diversity in schools for more integration between the different nationalities living in Côte d’Ivoire and more tolerance between the different tribes of the country.

Since its initiation, the Bee in Côte d’Ivoire has always been self-sponsored by its own young pioneers’ members, but sometimes, did receive some freebees from the U.S Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire.

Competitions are held at the local level in each city, district council and department of the country until the regional finals. At the end of these local finals, the best spellers go to Abidjan for the National Finals where they compete with the best spellers of the economic capital.

Spelling Bee Côte d’Ivoire is the country’s biggest and longest-running educational competition. After 7 months of competition all around the country, the Best Spellers gather (generally on the last Saturday of May) for one week in Abidjan to attend the Final Show.
