• Spell Master is an Educational fun activity that involves Malawian school going children in spellings

Spell Master Education Communications (SMECO) was established in 2011 with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology with an aim of promoting education, arts and cultural related projects in Malawi. SMECO is governed by a board comprising of eight prominent Malawians and an executive headed by a Chief Executive Officer.

One of the most successful projects we have carried out so far is Spell Master Spelling Bee; which is an annual radio and television educational programme, in which both primary and secondary school children (both government and private or international), aged between 6 and 16 compete in spelling out words used in English language in a deliberate effort to raise English literacy levels for junior and senior learners in Malawi. National Spelling Bee is now an affiliate of the Africa Spelling Bee.

So far the Spell Master spelling Bee – Malawi has reached over 10,500 children across the 3 regions of Malawi since 2012. The spelling Bee objective in Malawi is to improve the reading culture, build confidence in children, improve vocabulary, provide a platform for educational exposure and enhance public speaking.

The spelling bee is organized by Spell Master Education Communications (SMECO) with broadcasting partnership with Zodiak TV and radio and with technical support from the Department of Inspectorate and Advisory Services through South West Education Division (SWED) under Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
